Rosie Thompson joins Arts Thread at DESIGNERSBLOCK

Rosie Thompson (Surface Design Graduate 2011) will be joining ARTS THREAD at this year’s DESIGNERSBLOCK to display some of her unique and innovative projections.

Rosie developed the work as part of her Final Major project.
'I really wanted to push the boundaries of what a surface could be, questioning why does a surface have to be permanent, could it be temporary? I wanted something sustainable, that didn’t want a lot of waste with my final products. This is why I have used light as my material, it becomes a surface that you can change as often as you like. The animation allows the designs to flow and to tell a story, being as literal or as abstract as desired.'

Rosie set up the
GREENSHED
group during her final year of study. The group, made up of students from across the course, devised ways in which to reduce waste and energy use within the Red Shed Studio and Workshops at Bucks New University.

Harri was selected as one of the 24 'Star Textile Designers' of Texprint 2011 in the UK wide competition. She went on to have her work chosen by Sophie Steller for a Spinexpo travel prize and the opportunity to exhibit her work at the international exhibition of yarn and fibres for the knitwear industry, held at the new World Expo and Conference Centre in Shanghai.

“It’s exciting to learn how a show like this works; how trends are put together; what it’s like to be an exhibitor rather than a visitor to a show and how that opens up your connections in the industry even more,” said knit designer Harri Batty

You can read Harri's blog here: http://harribatty.blogspot.com/

And further information and a full press release has been published on the Texprint website: http://www.texprint.org.uk/index.php/news#entry269

Well done Harri!
